Hospital and appointment accompaniment: what to ask for

Appointments in a busy hospital can be overwhelming, especially for older relatives. A good accompaniment visit starts well before the waiting room: confirming the appointment, arranging transport, and making sure your relative has their documents and any medication list.

During the appointment, the companion stays with your relative throughout — helping them hear, understand, and remember what the clinician says.

Afterwards, you receive a written summary of what was discussed, any follow-up booked, and anything the clinician asked to be watched. This is the part families abroad value most: a clear, calm record you can act on.

When you arrange accompaniment, tell us the appointment time and location, any mobility needs, and whether your relative needs help with medication reminders before the visit. The more we know, the smoother the day goes.
